Kilwaughter Lime included in top satellite images of the year

Posted on 15 January 2014

Digital Globe voted ‘Wish’ 2nd in their list of the top 20 satellite images of the year, with public votes taking the Belfast shot beyond such international landmarks as the Great Barrier Reef and the Palace of Versailles and into the last five. It was only beaten by Mount Vesuvius to the top spot.

‘Wish’, Rodriguez-Gerada’s portrait of an anonymous local child gazing towards the future, represents a new face for Belfast on the old face of the city. Situated in Belfast’s Titanic Quarter, the portrait spans 11 acres and is comprised of materials sourced solely from the land.

Many local firms did their bit to provide, tools, machinery, material & labour. Kilwaughter Chemical Co. Ltd contributed over 25 tonne of limestone for the child’s eyes. This is one of the many unusual requests Kilwaughter Chemical Co. Ltd have encountered over the years.
