Soil Testing from Kilwaughter

Enhanced P, K and pH Analysis and a 5 Year Lime and Fertiliser Plan.

At Kilwaughter, we are committed to delivering the greatest possible support for farmers and their soil. With intense scrutiny via government legislation and financial pressure from rising prices, we understand your desire to get the most of your land. And as manufacturers of G-Lime, the market’s fastest, most-effective agricultural lime, we want everyone to have access to the best soil analysis tools available so that they can make more informed decision on what should go into it.

As such, our analysis package includes more than simply a standard pH test. With a soil testing kit from Kilwaughter, you can expect to receive detailed results for Phosphorus, Potassium, Calcium, Magnesium, Sulphur and Sodium, allowing you plan exactly what should go into your soil to give the crop the optimum conditions for growth.

We also use the Cation Exchange Capacity (CEC) of your sample to analyse the specific type of soil, providing further understanding of how any applied lime will take effect over the coming weeks, months and years, putting you in full control of your soil’s health.

Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I get my soil tested?

Regular soil analysis is considered to be every 4 or 5 years, and is a requirement in regions under phosphate regulations to show there is a crop requirement, before applying any chemical phosphorus.

What can I expect to receive?

In the pack, you will receive 3 soil sampling bags, an instructions leaflet, an order form which must completed with your sample details, and a pre-paid envelope to cover the cost of returning the sample to the lab.

Do you provide any tools for taking the samples?

We do not provide tools for sampling, however as this video (hyperlink to bit.ly/soildemo) demonstrates, a basic trowel should do the job. Your local merchant may be willing to loan out an auger if you think it would be of benefit.

Are there any other costs involved?

No. Once you have paid online there will be no further costs associated with your 3 soil samples. For postage, a pre-paid envelope is included in the pack you will receive.

What happens if I need to test multiple fields?

You can purchase as many samples as you require, but only in multiples of 3. Any pack sent to the lab, which doesn’t include exactly 3 samples, may be rejected.

Can I purchase soil packs over the phone or by cheque?

You can order soil testing packs from Kilwaughter by calling +44 (0)28 2868 3300 and giving card details over the phone. You can also pay by cheque (will need time to clear), payable to “Kilwaughter Minerals” and posted along with a note including your full name, address, phone number and how many “S500 – Soil Test Kits” you need. Cheques should be sent to Soil Testing Kits, Kilwaughter Lime, 9 Starbog Road, Larne, BT40 2TJ.

When will my pack arrive?

Packs will be sent within 2 business days of request and should arrive within 5 business days.

How long will it take to get the results back?

Once you have gathered your samples and sent them to the lab, please allow 7-10 business days for receiving your results. Results will be shared by email and information will be provided on how to avail of further (free) Agronomy advice.

What will the soil analysis include?

Your analysis will include laboratory readings on pH, Phosphorus (ppm), Potassium (ppm), Magnesium (ppm), Sodium (ppm), Calcium (ppm) and Sulphur (ppm). It will also present a grading for each result, and a recommendation for how to correct it (if needed), using lime or fertiliser. A separate report will be included outlining any necessary lime for the next 5 years to enhance your soil and create the best condition for your specific crop and soil-type.

How will I understand my results?

The results are presented in a very clear and intuitive way, but should you have any difficulties or if your results raise any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact our Agronomist, Kevin Havekes. Kevin’s details will be shared in the email containing your results.

What happens next?

We would encourage you to discuss your results with our Agronomist, Kevin, whose details will be included in the email you receive. However, if you wish to take them, either to your merchant or another agronomy expert, you will find them to be of such exceptional clarity, quality and credibility that they will be well received wherever you take them.
